Gotta love Isen - first he publicly declares the impending doom of the telecom business as it had existed for a century in a paper that is still required reading for anyone working in the telecom/internet world, The Rise of the Stupid Network, and in the process derails a promising career at a foundering company in a dying industry (his employer, Bell Labs, was not amused by his characterization of their business or its future prospects).
And now he warns us of the latest treat to the Stupid Network, the telecoms' desire to move away from Network Neutrality toward a world where the they get to decide what traffic, what services, and what content they will allow to traverse the pipes that we users are paying for.
With apologies to Dr. Seuss, David provides his warning in rhyme and exhorts us to join him at Freedom to Connect, April 3 and 4 in Washington DC. I hope to be there, and encourage everyone else to go and support this effort. David is one of the most interesting and visionary people I've met, and enough others feel that way about him that any event he puts on attracts great people.
If you share my concern that Network Neutrality is a key to our industry, to the future success of the companies we're building, and to the continuation of the progress and innovation we've seen over the past decade, sign this petition NOW, get involved at F2C, and remember David's mantra:
Fat Pipe, Always On, Get Out of the Way
